Be Your Own Shakti – A Unique EdTech Platform for Life Skills Education

Indian professionals see their degrees as a gateway to a successful career. They invest time and money to acquire in-demand degrees and certifications. However, a large majority lack the skills to navigate and succeed in the real world.

These life skills include how to get the most out of your paycheck; how to stand up to prejudice in the workplace; how to respond to the lack of a safe and supportive work environment. These issues may seem trivial at first glance, but have a lasting impact on an individual’s personal and professional life.

These issues and skills are not taught in educational institutions nor are they part of community discourse, thus giving rise to a generation that is oblivious and unequipped to face challenges.

To bridge this wide gap in life skills education, India’s leading outreach experts Be.artsy launched a “Be Your Own Shakti” EdTech platform on Wednesday, February 9. This is a unique venture in India, aiming to take life skills education far and wide through e-learning.

Be.artsy as an organization is renowned for its awareness programs on topics such as financial literacy, sexual harassment prevention, bias training, and more. They have been working in the field of awareness and life skills training for over a decade.

They have become a leader in partnering with major Indian financial institutions such as the National Stock Exchange, to implement financial education and awareness programs for young professionals. Their clientele includes large corporations like

Pepsico, Tata Coffee, IndiGo Airlines, PwC, Reckitt Benckiser, etc. as well as financial and educational institutions across the country.

“Be Your Own Shakti” will feature Be.artsy’s flagship programs and classes. Course content includes well-researched information validated by subject matter experts and presented in a creative format – a hallmark of all Be.artsy educational programs. Content will be available in multiple languages and will be localized in context. It is about making life skills education relevant and easily accessible to its audience.

Shikha Mittal, Founder, Director of Be.artsy, who was on the Forbes India W-Power Trailblazers 2019 list, explains the goal of bringing Be.artsy’s programs online: “Before the pandemic hit, Be. artsy was actively involved in conservation-ground awareness programs. After the pandemic things came to a screeching halt and it made us sit up and think. I have noticed that people have started to face new challenges within the confines of their homes during the lockdown. Much news about job losses and furloughs began to surface along with an increase in violence against women.

Shikha adds, “That’s when we realized we now had the ability to conduct our outreach programs through a dedicated online EdTech platform for wider reach and easier delivery. This is the first and only platform of its kind!

Talking about what makes the platform unique, Shikha explains, “Now is the time to expand our efforts to educate young professionals about taking charge of their lives by learning these life skills. We address societal and professional inadequacies appropriately using technology and leveraging the power of community learning. That’s what Be Your Own Shakti is and that’s what makes us unique.

The platform will proceed with a staggered launch of its online programs; in the first phase, it will focus on subscriber-driven growth for its learning programs. In phase two, it will facilitate cohort-based learning, resulting in cause-based communities across the country. Be Your Own Shakti plans to impart life skills to one million people over the next three years.
