Emmi Lewis’s new clothing and housewares business is living proof that you can live anywhere in this modern world and not be left out of the retail industry.
The Quarters Linen and Clothing is the 22-year-old first adventure in online shopping, from her base on a property south of Longreach, and she says she has a very positive response.
“I started thinking about it 12 months ago,†she said. “I wanted to match life here with a modern outlook.”
Originally from Tenterfield, NSW, Emmi embarked at Glennie School in Toowoomba before heading to Longreach in 2018, supposedly for a year.
After being a housekeeper for Peter and Kimble Thomas in Ilfracombe, she found herself in a number of clerical positions in Longreach, most notably for Bill and Georgia Seeney’s Ray White Rural business.
She says she has come to love the beautiful world that is remote West Queensland for its unique landscapes, incredibly warm sunsets, hard-working people and a “tight-knit community that is still so. welcoming “.
They gathered around Emmi and her boyfriend Robert Paterson in early December 2019 when Robert crashed his assembling ultralight plane near Isisford, resulting in serious injuries to his head, face and legs.
Life changed for both of them over the months and years that followed, including a decision on where it would be best for them to live.
They settled at Inkerman Station, halfway between Isisford and Stonehenge, hence the name of Emmi’s company.
“We live in the remodeled shearer quarters over there,†she explained. “This is my store, and I have pop-ups around the neighborhood as well.”
Still in love with fashion and housewares, Emmi chose the company as her outlet in what was a very new and unfamiliar lifestyle.
“I had a little trouble finding my place in the world, seclusion was not my natural place,” she said.
This was the driving force behind The Quarters, as well as the belief that no matter if someone lived in Melbourne or in a remote breeding station in west-central Queensland, women should be able to access personal and household styles. that make them confident and beautiful. inside and outside.
“I imagined myself providing the wonderful women I am surrounded by near and far with clothes and household items that involved a mix of modern, classic and country tastes,†she said.

Emmi said she believes there is always room for more choice in the region, as evidenced by the support her website has received since launching in November.
“I try to buy Australian products as much as possible and experience a modern and unique vibe with my housewares,†she said.
As if that weren’t enough, she started studying nursing outside through the University of New England during the start of the June 2020 school year and is planning her wedding in November 2022.
“Rob is the number one supporter of me and my business idea,†she said. “The launch morning in November went very well, and I have a much more positive response than I expected so soon.”
All of her models – Jessica Ball, Courtney Horan, Kate Paterson, Rachel Bryant, Maddie McCosker, Jules White, Courtney Sheales, Samantha Plath and Kate Browning – are locals who also love her initiative.
