– The education platform DreamBox Learning has appointed five new leaders:

  • Lakshmi Nidamarthi as a product manager. Nidamarthi was most recently Director of Product and Technology for Alexa Experiences at Amazon.
  • Ronit Peled as head of personnel. Peled spent over 10 years at OpenMarket, a mobile messaging platform, most recently as Global Head of People and Culture.
  • Jason sinquefield as SVP of sales and partnerships. Sinquefield holds a PhD in Educational Leadership and most recently was Sales Manager for LEGO Education. He is based in North Carolina.
  • Michel savitz as senior vice president of operations. Based in South Carolina, Savitz comes from Blackbaud where he was vice president and general manager of education services.
  • Tracy kleine as vice president of marketing. Kleine previously worked at DreamBox for a year and was Marketing Manager at Teaching Channel, BrightBytes and BetterLesson. She is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Based in Bellevue, Wash., DreamBox Learning’s K-8 digital math curriculum is personalized for each student using adaptive technology. The company reports nearly 5 million students using its platform across North America.

– Professor at the University of Washington Husband Ostendorf was appointed vice-rector, research effective September 1. She has been Associate Vice-President, Research since 2017.

Ostendorf will succeed Marie Lidstrom, who held the position for 15 years and is retiring to focus on his research.

In this role, Ostendorf will lead the UW research office which supports the university’s research community through administration, funding and partnerships.

Ostendorf studies speech and language technology. She holds an Endowed Chair from the College of Engineering and is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Computer Science.

– Seattle-based independent public relations firm Barokas Communications has been acquired by New York-based Finn Partners. As part of the acquisition, Howie Barokas and Karli Barokas join Finn Partners as Managing Partners and members of its Global Tech Practice management team. Read the story.

– Renewal Fuels, Inc. appointed Alka Badshah as CEO. Badshah is a former director of Microsoft and until recently was vice president of Catalytic Innovators Group, a social impact consultancy.

Renewal Fuels is a holding company targeting investments in health and wellness, including the use of psilocybin, CBD, and cannabis for mental health.

The company is publicly traded on the pink OTC (over-the-counter) market, an alternative exchange that includes many stocks listed in pennies. RNWF shares soared more than 100% on Monday following the announcement of Badshah’s hiring.

– Seattle 3D laser printing startup Glowforge hired Megan Lute as Advocate General.

Lutes was recently part of the legal team at trucking startup Convoy and previously was legal counsel at Moss Adams. She currently sits on the board of directors of Providence Hospice of Seattle.
