The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD), having received a complaint about the purchase of damaged chicken from the e-partika.lv Internet store, carried out an inspection during which it removed from circulation a total of 1616.8 kilograms of food, the PVD said on July 12.

82 types of products were removed from the warehouse, including 17 products of plant origin and the rest of the products of animal origin.

The PVD inspectors found that the supplier was “Fresh & more†with a warehouse store on LubÄnas Street, which had not registered its activities in the register of PVD companies in accordance with the specified procedures.

During the review, a number of violations were identified which may have a significant impact on food safety. The products in the store had no accompanying documents, the origin of the products could not be determined, some products were not labeled. It was also revealed that the premises of the warehouse store contained large quantities of products which had expired or whose expiration date could not be established, as well as the fact that for a large part of the products the expiration date was falsified.

For example, the freezer contained 158 kilograms of animal products expired on July 14, 2020, including frozen meat showing signs of repeated freezing, in damaged packaging.

The storage of the product did not reach the specified storage temperature, the air temperature in the premises of the warehouse-warehouse was +35.6 degrees Celsius. The product packages, the tops of the shelves, were dirty, with a thick layer of dust.

Work on the company’s warehouse warehouse is currently on hold. Administrative procedures have been initiated. The e-partika.lv site is included in the list of Internet shops where people are encouraged not to shop.

The PVD calls on consumers to be careful not to buy food of dubious quality and origin from unregistered food producers and distributors. Products of unknown origin present a risk to the health of consumers as they may have been produced, transported and distributed under unsanitary conditions and at inappropriate temperatures, allowing a risk of contamination of food.
